Regal Coastal Blue buffet sideboard with tropical interior

By Door Thirty Four in Orpington, Kent, GB

This piece was one of those that you love - but you have no idea what to do with it! After completing a sideboard in coastal blue, it struck me how elegant it looked so I dug the unit out the back of the garage and spent half a day sanding and prepping it. It dawned on me - all it needed was a saturated colour - rich and deep and luxurious. The interior was pretty shabby so that needed a facelift too.

Prepped and primed, I smothered the whole unit with layers of coastal blue. I finished it with High Performance Top Coat in satin and set to work on the interior. I thought it would be nice to have a little pop of something different, so used this gorgeous textured paper to line the drawers & cupboard interior. I sealed it with top coat and sourced some pretty mercury glass knobs to complete the piece.

I don't often come across furniture in this style so it was a joy to work on. And I am always a sucker for a nice set of legs! The guy that bought it was thrilled, commenting that it was more like a work of art. I reckon that was a job well done.
