Old Door French Trumeau

By Jolanta Tomaszewska designer/owner at Joly Thomas Home in Konstancin-Jeziorna, PL

My friend brought me an old door that did not have much value. They were heavily damaged. Joanna was dreaming of an old door looking like a forgotten gate in French old residences. I thought I would do the French Trumeau style door. I had to take old paint off and clean it. I reversed the door upside down and fastened the classic decors purchased from a carpenter. Under the cornice I put a laurel which I made myself gluing consecutively leaves imprinted from the IOD mold. At the bottom of the door I fixed the mirror. When the whole composition was ready I painted it black and then applied by brushing the brighter colors that between with layers I polished with sandpaper. On the decors I added a touch of gold paint and a two-component preparation for the effect of cracks. Part of the door over the mirror decorated with a template. To give color depth and the effect of old I used glaze in black and brown. To finish I used clear  and black wax.
