Mid-Century Java Depth

By Karie Bogart, Flipping Fabulous Salina, Co-Owner at Flipping Fabulous Salina in Salina, KS.

Customized in Fusion Mineral Paint Ash, these drawer fronts & legs were darkened with General Finishes Java Gel Stain & the entire piece is sealed with High Performance Satin - this beautiful Bassett dresser will last another 50 years!

Sometimes with mid-century pieces, I find the wood is a great shade - other times, I just need to give it depth. GF Gel Stains are perfect for depth. I don't have to sand them down to bare wood - I can do it in my workshop, by using flex sanding sponges to knock off old finish, clean with GF Furniture Cleaner, and just giving them some deep tones. I have found that applying liberal amounts of Gel Stain is the best application method; if applied too sparingly, it will dry, pulling and dragging instead of adding depth and dimension.
