When I came accross this antique writing bureau I was immediately reminded of a beautiful old French Chateau we had visited while on holiday. I wanted to re-create the style and opulence of the period when King Louis XV reigned. I have a vision of a beautiful lady sitting at her bureau writing "letters to Louis".
I painted the outside of the bureau in General Finishes Patina Green. The inside and back have been painted in General Finishes Linen. Then the fun began with the mouldings which were painted in Patina and then dry brushed with General Finishes Pearl Effects in Tawny and Champagne and also Van Dyke Glaze. The carvings and drawer borders were painted in Tawny Pearl. The leather having had two coats of GF Linen was then ponsed with a mix of Tawny,Champagne,Copper pearl and Van Dyke Glaze. The handles were treated to some antique gold rub and buff. Two coats of G.F. high performance top coat in Flat completed the project.
