Finding the perfect piece I could transform into a liquor cabinet / dry bar for my client was only the first hurdle of this custom order.
The second issue was coming up with a design that would highlight the “interesting” veneer pattern on the doors instead of just totally covering it with paint.
My client was a bit skeptical at first (the doors were her least favorite part) but quickly became a believer as this piece transformed. What once had an almost Partridge Family plaid feel now had the look of intricate inlaid wood!
My addition of a drop down work surface not only added the desired functionality but also brought some serious swank to this piece!
I used GF Nutmeg Gel Stain to refresh the interior of the upper cabinet and to refinish the small drawers. The new piece of wood that in now the work surface required 2 coats of Nutmeg to match. The body and shelves were hand painted in General Finishes Lamp Black Milk Paint. Frog tape and lots of math, lol, were used to get just the perfect shaped diamond patterns on this one.
This order was actually a surprise gift from my client to her fiancé for his Bourbon collection and to show off his newly acquired mixologist skills. Pleased to say he was one happy guy when he picked up his finished present!
