This simple cabinet is all wood construction and arrived at my studio just that. Plain old wood. Finding inspiration in an old pie safe, I immediately knew I wanted to create a rusty, tin panel with chippy paint effect on the insets of the front door and each cabinet side. I’m not going to lie, this finish took time and I used products from many different manufacturers. I started by creating texture using Texture Paste by ArtsySyVille Embellishments from Artistic Painting Studio, bubble wrap and a raised stencil. I then created the faux rust effect using Modern Masters Metal Effects Iron Paint and Rust activator. After sealing that up with a polycrylic I applied Crackletex from Artisan Enhancements for more texture and brushed on a coat of a custom mix of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White and Pure White using a sea sponge to pull the paint back off. Final finishing was done with Annie Sloan Clear Wax, Dark Wax and Black Wax. The result is my version of an old rusty crusty tin panel.
