Burl Bombe Chest

By Ryan Findley, Owner and Operator at Way Back When Once Again in Sterling, VA.

This client’s heirloom, handmade bombe chest with beautiful burl wood came to us with half the veneer peeling off, large cracks in the case and a missing top.  We stripped the hardware off and cleaned, polished and lacquered it.  We cut, sanded and glued a new top for the piece, stripped a good deal of the case’s veneer off and wood filled and smoothed the body of the piece out before painting it a custom white.  The drawer fronts were left natural and were just cleaned and polished.  It’s now ready for another century of use.
