Earth on Fire

“Earth On Fire” is a piece of Buckeye Burl wood was recovered from a trash pile.  It had been ravaged by the effects of weather, rot, worms and insects and was simply thrown away.  In its natural healthy state, Buckeye Burl is a beautiful colorful wood of dark and light grays and yellows.  The wood was turned into a sphere and the natural colors were enhanced with dyes of black, red, orange and yellow.  The finish is General Finishes Wood Turners Finish and the overall size is 5" x 5".

Hawaiian Mango Hollow Form

This hollow form was turned from Mango wood that came from Hawaii.  The surface was completed with a hand-rubbed oil finish and the piece measures 9" x 5".

This is a hollow form that has been made from Cherry burl.  The surface was brought to life with some red and yellow dye, and finished with lacquer.  The finished piece is 7" x 7".

Magnolia Reborn

A wonderful 150-year-old deep-South Magnolia tree was blown to the ground in a heavy storm.  It laid on the ground for quite some time and had begun to show the signs of decay when parts of it were recovered to be saved and reborn in another form.  The early stages of decay and rot are evidenced by the beautiful streaks of black color through the wood.  The form was shaped with very thin walls, which results in a delightful tactile experience when the viewer picks up the piece from the table.  Life’s experiences teach us that a relatively large piece of wood should have a certain weight, an

Reborn as Bronze

Reborn as Bronze is a piece of Camphor wood that has been turned into a hollow form.  The surface was then embellished with a bronze paint and treated with a patina process resulting in an aged effect.  The finished piece is 5" x 5".

New Direction

“New Direction” is a piece of Mesquite wood that came from a dead tree on the King Ranch in southern Texas.  The surface was dirty, rotted and perforated with worm and insect tunnels.  When the bad surface wood was cut away, beautiful wood was exposed.  In effect, the wood was reborn.  The Mesquite was turned into a hollow form, and then it was cut apart with a top and bottom and several rings.  The rings were carved and shaped, and then bleached.  The pieces were put back together and the top and bottom were hand rubbed with an oil finish.  The finished piece stands 15" x 6".  The reborn w
