Handmade wood turning project. The handle is made of Purple Heart wit a spalted beech Celtic knot inlay.

Memory Bowl

By Kreg Hamburger at Kreg Hamburger Productions, LLC in Denver, CO.

Winning Category

Maple Bowl with wood inay. This bowl was created to combine the skills learned in beginning woodturning and wood inlay classes as my final for both. The inlay is my grandfathers farm house in Weatherford, OK where I was first introduced to woodworking by my grandfather. The inlay combines the sunsets of Oklahoma, the canned pears from my grandparents orchard as well as the wheat fields on the farm. The bowl represents the full circle of discovering woodworking from a young age to returning to it after 40 plus years.

Live Edge Oak Bowl

By Ethan McCrary

Winning Category

This was my first green turned bowl and it turned out really well. There was only one major crack that I filled with brass dust and CA glue. I wanted to preserve the wood feel of the bowl so I only finished it with mineral oil. This has the added benefit of being food safe. The end result was a smooth finish that can be easily reapplied.

Curl Maple Bowl

By Ethan McCrary

Winning Category

This bowl turned out really well. It has a small section of live edge that looks pretty good. I wanted a smooth finish on this bowl so I used mineral oil to pop the grain and wax to seal it. The wax turned out really smooth and gave it a nice sheen.
