This is an older, bombe style jewelry cabinet that I found at a local thrift store. It was a very sad specimen but I could see the beauty inside waiting to shine! I've included a before picture as well.
I started out by cleaning and sanding the entire piece. I then painted the trim in GF Antique white and the body in GF Persian Blue. To give the piece an entirely new look and feel, I added textured paintable wallpaper to each side of the cabinet, which are actually doors that open.
I measured and precut the wallpaper to within fractions of an inch of the doors. To add the wallpaper, I used actual wallpaper glue which I purchased at a big box store. I then laid the pre-cut wallpaper on the door sides, using a roller brayer to 'flatten' the wallpaper to ensure it adhered properly. I gently sanded the edges of each door wherever the wallpaper was slighly too long. I then painted the wallpapered doors. The entire piece was topcoated with HPTC, followed by Van Dyke Brown glaze over the entire piece, including the wallpaper.
This piece sold in under one minute, after placing it for sale on Facebook-- my fastest selling piece to date!
