One day I was taking out the trash to my condos dumpster when I spotted a console table sitting next to the dumpster. I stood for a moment thinking, "this is a joke...someone is watching or video taping me, right?" I threw my trash out, and walked over to the table and looked around. Nope, not a soul in sight. Some families were moving out, so this table was put out. I picked up the table and as casually as possible, walked home with my prize. When I look at a piece of furniture, I imagine how best to highlight its beautiful points. This table 's base is partially pressboard, so I decided to chalk paint the body but the top was wood so I wanted to give it something special. I decided doing a stained blue top would be really nice. Then my son's fiancee , Eulissa, saw it and said "Mine??" Well, it didn't cost me anything and she and my son needed furniture, so I went over with what I planned. The only change was she wanted purple stain on the top with the blue.
I washed the entire table down with TSP and used wood filler where needed. There were a lot of deep gouges on the base. I lightly sanded the base of the table and then painted it in Kliz 2. Then I painted the bottom in two coats of .Sherwin Williams 6106 Kilim Beige homemade chalk paint. For the top of the table, I sanded it down and used wood filler and sanded it again. I used General Finishes Pre-Stain conditioner on the entire top. Then I used Minwax water based wood stain in slate as a base. On the top, I used Unicorn Spit colors of Purple Majesty, Blue Thunder, White Ning, Dragons Belly and Zia Teal. The border around the top was done in Sherwin Williams 6479 Drizzle homemade chalk paint. I finished the top in General Finishes Arm R Seal semi-gloss and the bottom in General Finishes Arm R Seal in satin.
So, the table is with Sean and Eulissa and she loves her table!
