The "Country Chic" style is increasingly popular! By using General Finishes products, it is easy to achieve this amazing look. I found a solid wood table with a matching bench at a local thrift store. The table top was scratched and stained with markers and paints. The bench and legs were painted with a now-faded forest green, a flashback to the 90's style in decor. I had a vision for this table and bench, and knew General Finishes products could help me transform these pieces from a thrift store tuck-away to a tasteful treasure. I cleaned up the wood, gave it a light sanding where needed, and opened my paint cabinet for product inspiration. General Finishes Queenstown Gray Milk Paint stood out to me at once. I was designing a modern farmhouse kitchen, and this dark grey would transform the table and bench into centerpiece statement pieces. I used 3 coats of Queenstown Gray Milk Paint to fully cover the pieces. Once dry, I used 2 coats of General Finishes Flat Out Flat Water Based Topcoat. I love using this topcoat since I am able to retain a flat, rustic finish on my pieces while still giving them a protective finish. After the topcoat dried, I used a flexible putty knife to distress my pieces along all the edges. Sandpaper? Not this time! By sealing first and then distressing with the putty knife, I had minimal clean up and no dust. And my pieces ended up with a perfect distressing! General Finishes paint and sealers make it easy to take furniture from outdated to tasteful. These pieces now add rustic elegance with country charm to this beautiful kitchen.
