Lamp Black and Grey Buffet

By Mitzie Tibbets, Owner/Designer at JoyUs by Design in VA.

I loved the shape of this one but it lacked personality and needed a lot of creativity to bring out its natural elegance. It wasn't a matter of just putting a coat of paint on something.  Painting, stenciling, glazing, fabric, crystals, etc., many processes were needed for this creative look.

The oval shapes on the front were the perfect place to add drama and interest.  I added a raised stencil to both ovals. This was a little tricky because of the shape but perseverance paid off.

The top and lower part of this buffet was painted with General Finishes Lamp Black Milk Paint.  This is such a dramatic, rich, and beautiful black. The body of this piece was painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey.  The raised stencils were pretty but I wanted to add a little bling to the front and sides.   The sides and drawers were stenciled using Modern Masters Metallic Paint in Silver. Each of the ovals were glazed with a custom glaze using Valspar clear glaze mixed with General Finishes Milk Paint in Lamp Black to bring out the details.  Swarkovski crystals were added to the front and sides of this piece. Now is shines!

The top came to life once I applied General Finishes High Performance Topcoat in Satin. So silky smooth and beautiful! This was also applied to the stenciled drawers. Fabric was added to the side drawers to allow the customer to use this as a proper buffet. Little creative details make such a difference.
