Grandma’s Gypsy Boho Transformation

By Melissa Flippin, Owner/Artist at Flippotential Custom Finishes in Wheelock, TX.

It doesn’t get more Boho than this!! When the client brought in her grandmother’s old French Provential desk and wanted it updated for her tween daughter, we weren’t sure we could pull it off, but we’re always willing to try!

The two colors she asked for were turquoise and coral... and oh yeah...... Serape stripes!!!!!

The main color is Florence, dry brushed with Antibes, sealed with clear wax. I had never painted a serape, so after studying many different serape patterns (who knew there were so many?), I finally just started painting, using white, coral, pink and yellow acrylic paints and Florence and Antibes again.  After ROLLS of painters tape and several do-overs, I finally got a result I was happy with.

The chair cushion was recovered with a solid coral fabric.  To complete the gypsy, Boho vibe, we replaced the original hardware with gold arrow pulls from Junk Gypsy’s online store.

The tween got her Boho look and grandma’s French Provential desk will never be the same.
