Last year for my birthday, my son Sean gave me cash to buy something nice for myself. Instead I found a 1940's dressing table that I knew his fiancee, Eulissa, would love. I bought it for $75.00 and it was in great condition. It just needed a little updating. (Yes, my son was annoyed at me.) Anyway, after I brought it home, Eulissa and I sat down to figure out how she wanted ti to look and what colors she wanted. Eulissa LOVES purple so it was no surprise that it would have that in there.
I used a sander deglosser all over to get a nice surface for painting. I then primed the dresser in Kilz twice and sanded in between. As a base I used Sherwin Williams color 3377 Chase the Moonlite and then applied Sherwin Williams colors 6550 Mythical, 6549 Ash Violet, and 9076 Ruby Violet in homemade chalk paint overlapping randomly all over the dressing table. Adding a touch of glam, I used General Finishes Argentine and Champagne Pearl Effects on edges of the table, the mirror and the scrollwork of the table. I used General Finishes Arm R Seal in satin all over the dressing table and mirror. Inside the drawers were pretty bad so I used marble looking contact paper to protect the drawers. I used Rub n Buf in silver on all of the drawer pulls and they look beautiful and shiny new.
Eulissa is delighted with her updated 1940's dressing table. She always wanted a special place to put on her make-up and do her hair so now she has her own "Babe Cave". It was my happy birthday present to make Eulissa's wish happen.
