Desk & Hutch

By Karina Kudymova in San Jose, CA.

Winning Category

I found this Pottery Barn Desk & Hatch at a Garage Sale. But it was worn off, scratched and it was dark navy. But my daughter was dreaming of the furniture to match the bright pink colors of her room. So I sanded the table top and coated it with GF Polyurethane Top Coat.  Then my daughter and I primed the whole desk with a Snow White Milk Paint. Then I applied my flowery design cut out of the colorful tissue paper and set it on the diluted glue. Then added I free-hand black graphic painted with back enamel and covered it with one protective coat of Varnish.

Chairs

Winning Category

When the original red paint wore off my IKEA chairs I decided to repaint them with bright green color that matches our “hacienda style” living room. But my kids, who helped me, initially did such a bad job that I had to sand the chairs to prepare the surface for another round of painting. And they looked quite interesting, so I’ve decided to add decorative flowers and leave them as they were. I used the gold leaf and protected the siting surface with GF Polyurethane Top Coat.

Piano

By Karina Kudymova in San Jose, CA.

Winning Category

I found this piano in a Thrift store, and it was in a good condition to use as an instrument for my daughter who just started to take piano lessons. The idea to paint it appeared after a trip to Las Vegas. At that time we also moved to a new home in San Jose and wanted to create a colorful and inviting living space. I covered the piano with Snow White Milk Paint coat and used acrylic paints for geometric ornaments. I protected the surface with a coat of soft gel and several coats of hard MSA varnish.
