I picked up this piece at Greenwood Wildlife Thrift Store and Consignment Gallery in Boulder, CO. It was tucked away in the very back because the finish on it was in poor shape. I saw the potential the minute I laid eyes on it. My husband, Rob & I went back a few days later to pick it up & he fell in love with it. I knew right then that I was going to give it to him as a surprise Anniversary gift. Brought it home & got to work. I opted not to paint it...So I sanded, stripped & cleaned the exiting finish off. Once it was a clean slate I used General Finishes Antique Walnut on the drawer fronts & Java gel stain on the rest of the piece. I could of stained the entire piece in one or the other but I cant help to be different. I then sealed it all with GF's Arm-R-Seal in Satin. The inside letter compartment I painted in General Finishes Holiday Red Milk paint & then their Lamp Black Milk paint. Lightly distressing the edges to show the pop of red. I then used Arm-R-Seal in Gloss to give it that extra 'pop'. Original hardware was cleaned by soaking for 2 hrs in 2T Salt, 2T Vinegar & 2 Cups of Hot water. Scrubbed with a green pad & polished. This is by far the hardest I've worked on a piece but then again I've never worked so hard at a relationship like I have on my marriage. When 2 people get married at 19 & 17 years old, it requires work, dedication, sacrifice & loyalty. I can say after 24 years the work has paid off....just like this piece.
Happy Anniversary
