This wardrobe was part of a commission set of six pieces for a very lovely returning client. Funny story, they weren't keen on the set but had moved into a very old property where the only way they could get any furniture up to the bedroom was via a very small and narrow curved stairway, therefore this set was the only thing she could find that dismantled into many pieces!
Anyway, I could see the potential ... and we eventually agreed on this aged, french look.
After the normal prep work, I set to it. The original finish was stained pine and quite, well, ORANGE! I therefore primed with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer (2 coats) before the fun started. I applied two coats of Frenchic Sugar Puff and then, once dry, started blending a third coat with Frenchic Sugar Puff and Wedding Cake in a cross-hatch way to create texture. Again, there's a theme with my work here, I used a china plate with the two colours on and dipped one side of my brush in one colour and vice versa.
The next day (I was exhausted by this point as remember, there were six pieces in total), I added Fusion Antique Glaze all over and wiped off the excess; ensuring all the nooks and crannies and textured brush strokes had glaze in them.
A few days later, General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in Satin sealed the deal, erm, the wardrobe and then it was bye, bye commissions. Happy clients, happy me.
