The story behind this Bassett Credenza almost surpasses its beauty. This is a recent piece for me. I found it at a Goodwill close to my studio. I wrangled it into the garage and the next day I did the wiggle and slide method and moved it into my studio. When I was removing the drawers to prep them I discovered an overflowing shoe box full of family pics, souvenirs and a few English pound notes. I decided I had to try to get them back to their family.
On breaks from prepping, staining the drawers and top, painting the body and drawers, and sealing this Bassett Credenza I searched Facebook. I followed every lead I could and found 3 possible “family” Members. Sadly none of them had been in Facebook for over a year....so I searched their friends lists. I looked for anyone who was active in Facebook and might be family (however extended) of my 3 original family candidates. Here is where I confirmed that “It’s a Small World”. My Cousin Paula was in one of their friends lists. I messaged her, shared some pics and she said, “Oh yea! That’s ______’s Grandkids!”
And so now I wait....I am waiting for family to come and get their box of family memories. I’m the mean time, I am painting, sealing and buffing and gilding hardware. It was a very good day.
