I donated my kidney, June 1st, to my daughter to save her life. I painted this right before the surgery. As I stripped the top, I uncovered this beautiful burl wood and all of a sudden my vision totally changed! As I looked at the sides, I pondered what would match the Wise Owl Vingtage Duck Egg and it reminded me of the ocean. I then began to paint a stormy sea but yet the flowers were still blooming! Even in the midst of a storm, you can have a peace that passes understanding! I don’t take credit for the inspiration because sometimes through our own heartbreak, inspiration comes to give us the strength to remember that this too shall pass and our flowers WILL bloom again! I wanted this special piece to encourage others. The client that bought her was struggling with her own Storm. She had lost her precious husband 4 years ago and could never sleep in their room! When she saw this piece, it reminded her of him and gave her the strength to reclaim their room! She said he always loved the ocean and it brought peace and comfort to my heart!
Every piece has a story to tell, we just have to listen and allow that story to come about. As I stripped the stain, to see that beautiful burl caused me to get so excited! It had to have that special something on the sides! The hand painted sides just seemed to compliment this well made Pulaski piece! The vibrancy of the blues and cremes framed the scene very nicely. I applied Annie Sloan dark wax to give the blue an old world patina. I then sealed everything with General Finish High Performance Top coat which is my standard topcoat. I love the durability of the finish.
I count myself blessed to be able to do what I love! My daughter now has a normal kidney and can get on with living life! I ask you, what could be better than that!!!
