General Finishes

This dresser is my all time favorite! The wood on the top was already on it when I bought it and my original intention was to remove it and decoupage the top with book pages. I removed one piece of wood and saw that the top was in terrible shape, hence why someone covered it with wood strips. So in keeping with my philosophy of working with a piece and not against it, I got the idea to paint it and distress it to get that weathered skinny shiplap look that is so popular right now. When I started painting, it just kept beading up and not adhering to the surface because it had some kind of sealer/wash on it. I used Zinsser Shallac to create a barrier between my paint and the previous finish which worked beautifully. I painted her in Annie Sloan Old White, distressed her edges and the top, and finished it off with Annie Sloan Clear Wax. I replaced the hardware with these adorable cast iron faucet knobs. She sold the next day after being delivered to the shop. I just adore her trendy yet classic style.
