This little table had been sitting in the basement for years. I was wanting to try new colors and techniques and thought this table would be a perfect candidate for experimenting. At first, I wondered if it was even worth saving but was able to make repairs on the legs with glue, clamps and screws while keeping the screw heads unseen. Much sanding ensured all repairs were smooth. Then the entire table was roughed-up with 180 grit sand paper then thoroughly cleaned. The entire table was painted with a sponge brush applying 3 coats GF Evening Plum, sanding between each coat with a 220-grit finishing pad. Next the entire table was glazed with GF Pitch Black glaze followed with 3 coats of GF High Performance semi-gloss top coat. The table top has 3 coats of epoxy resin applied to the top. The first coat has a glow in the dark powder mixed in. For the next two coats, I divided the epoxy to allow the use of 4 colors of Pearl Ex powder pigment in the epoxy. The application of 3 coats gave the epoxy a lot of depth and the glow in the dark will glow through the colors. The finishing touch was the claw tips. They were gold and that was not working for me so I used Rub-n-Buff silver and that made them stand out. My experiment with colors and technique turned this table once considered “not worth saving” into a piece I am proud of.
