This newish cabinet was finished in medium brown stain and although well-made and in good shape, it was boring. It had none of the raised elements on the top and bottom trimmed edges and drawer fronts. The top and drawer trim of the cabinet were painted in GF Driftwood Gray and the drawers and sides were painted in our favorite GF Halcyon Blue. Top coat was GF High Performance Satin top coat.
Here’s where the fun came in… We wanted to add some artistic interest to this piece and used several skills and product to do this. The drawer fronts were highlighted using a pretty scroll stencil and wood icing as ‘fill’ for the stencil. The top rim and bottom rim of the cabinet were improved by using wood icing and a pastry bag to pipe on a lacy pattern. (I knew my pastry chef husband was going to be able to use his mad skills!) We loved it!
The stenciled and piped portions of the cabinet were painted using Silver Modern Masters Platinum semi-opaque silver paint. We went over those areas with GF Pitch-Black Glaxe to accent the hand piped wood embellishments. Holy Cow! We fell in love with the finished cabinet.
