As the husband of a wife with a small vendor space, I have found myself increasingly interested in “flipping” and building furniture. I grew up in Southern Indiana, with my dad as a professional woodworker. I never had an interest to pursue his same passions until recently. Specifically, this farmhouse table made me realize woodworking could become one of my new favorite hobbies. A very talented vendor of General Finishes products, known for her outstanding talents in using General Finishes, approached me with a request to build a farm table with special requirements. She had wood her husband had retrieved from his hometown, and the request was that I keep as much of the original wood character as possible. Additionally, the table had to be built with specific measurements for her son, who is wheelchair bound. It seemed like a lot, and honestly made me anxious, but knowing that someone so well known in the General Finishes world trusted me with such a tall order made me confident in getting the job done to perfection. Through many learning curves, phone calls to my dad in Southern Indiana, and compliments from my wife, I was thrilled to deliver this table to its new family. It was a rewarding experience to hear that the husband of the family looks at the table in aw, admiring the character and charm of the wood from his hometown. Even more rewarding than that is to hear that their son can join them at the dinner table at a place that fits him just right.
To bring life to the final product, the top was stained using General Finishes Natural waterbased stain with ArmRSeal. The legs were completed using GF weathered gray.
