Meet Caesar. He is my handsome and very ornate vintage dresser. I fell in love with him the moment I saw him. I knew all that detail was screaming, HELP ME! So... I rescued him! I had a client spot this on my page and she snagged it to match a mirror she had previously gotten from me. So, here we go.. 5 colors were used! I stripped the top because he was so full of scratches. Then I applied 2 coats of Annie Sloan Old White, over the entire piece. Next, I mixed up a brown wash using Buffalo by Shabby Paints and applied that all over. Oh, he looked better already! Then I dry brushed Annie Sloan provence on the raised details, followed by a subtle dry brush of a darker blue folk art paint. A very light white dry brush was applied to the piece, moreso the sides, using General Finishes chalk white. I hand painted, lightly, in some of the crevices with some more brown to achieve a better shadowing. The top was then painted in Buffalo. The piece was sealed in General Finishes High Performance Top Coat. I went back in with some dark wax for the crevices I thought needed a little more age. I applied Gold Rub n Buff to the hardware after cleaning it. I needed some more gold highlights so I added Gold Gilding Wax to some of the raised areas. WOW.. Gold makes everything better. LOL Buffed up that gold the next day and voila! Caesar was reborn!
