Totally Tropical Coastal Blues

I had just finished painting my bedroom navy. I was blue obsessed. 'Coastal blue' was one of the few General Finishes colours that I hadn't yet tried...it was time. And I love it. Just love it.

This gorgeous set of drawers had recently fallen into my life & the side panels were crying out to have paper inserts. I knew straight away that the dark blue background of this tropical print would blend in perfectly with the paint and I was not disappointed.

I cleaned & scrubbed & sanded - admiring the detailing and the perfect little legs as I went. Even as I was stirring the paint, I thought this was going to be a winner. I primed everything with my trusty Blackfriars primer, and after a final light sand and clean, we were ready to go.

The sun was out - it was a great painting day! Milk paint goes on like a dream with a brush, and after only 3 coats I was done. The gorgeous lines and detailing all still visible and made even more beautiful with the rich blue. I cut two panels of the wallpaper and glued them into the side panels, carefully chosing the best flowers and most handsome parrots!

After a day of drying, I set about sealing everything with High Performance Top Coat in the satin finish. I applied four coats and a couple more over the paper. I had already removed and saved the old metal knobs. They will find a new life on another project but this gorgeous blue called for something glam. Boom! Amazing gold crackled effect glass knobs. The perfect finishing touch to a simple yet stunning painting project.

They haven't found their way into my bedroom. Yet. There's still time!
