REVITALIZED IN RED!!

By Jacqueline Carucci

When I picked up this piece, I thought,  I'll paint it grey.  Then I thought, maybe I'll ask my husband & see what he thinks.  He said I should try Red.  Well, I did & wow, the photo's dont even capture the true beauty of this piece.  It was absolutly gorgeous.  I never would've thought to try something bold like Red, but this piece was so large & looked so great when all was said & done.  First I sanded the entire piece & primed it.  Then I painted it with General Finishes Holiday Red Milk Paint.  After painting it, I sealed it with General Finishes Flat top coat.  Then I applied the General Finishes Pitch Black Glaze Effects.  I'm always terrified when applying glaze (for no good reason), but really, it's a nice flowing glaze & you can control how much you want to stay on a piece.  As I was putting on the glaze, I watched the piece come to life.  I could not believe it, but my husband was right about the Red!!!! Finallly, I sealed the whole piece with 2 coats of General Finishes Flat top coat.  New hardware was added for a modern look. I'm definitely using this technique again & still can't believe how gorgeous she was.  This piece got me to step outside of my comfort zone, which I'm happy about.  This piece was truly, Revitalized in Red!!!
