Modern Living Room

Instead of going on a honeymoon like most couples after their wedding, my husband and I took all of our savings into buying our dream home and fixing it up. Being young, first time home owners, we knew that would mean doing a lot of "fixing up" ourselves. I loved our living room upon buying the house. I loved the built-ins and the brick fireplace. However they didn't quite fit the bright, clean, modern look I was wanting. I knew pretty much immediately, that one way I wanted to brighten up the room was by painting the mantle and built-ins a bright white. After a lot of research, I discovered General Finishes.

I order to complete this look I used the Stain Blocking Primer, Milk Paint in Snow White (3 coats), and one coat of the Semi-Gloss Top coat (I only used one coat because I loved the finish of the milk paint and only wanted to add some durability). By following all of the instructions on the General Finishes videos, I was able to complete this painitng project in just a few days.

I love the final look of this project. The brightness this paint adds really opens up the room and makes it feel much bigger. Perfect way to update woodwork from 1983, to have a completely mordern vibe.
