Federal side table

By William Francis Brown in Forest, VA.

Winning Category

This is a Federal influenced (1790-1810) side table of my own design.

It features curly and crotch Cherry as the main woods.

Hand-made inlays inlcude Holly, Sycamore, Ebony, Satinwood, Pear, Zebrawood, and Macassar Ebony

The legs feature fine inlaid holly lines and patterns, ending at the tapers with cuff bandings.  The drawer is cock-beaded and veneered.  Joinery is all hand cut: mortise and tenons and dovetails.

The finish included boiled linseed oil, shellac, and General Finishes 'Arm-R-Seal Urethane Topcoat' which provides a hand-rubbed natural look.  Final rubbing-out was performed with General Finishes 'Satin Finishing Wax' and 6-0 steel wool.
