Custom built table top

By Tim Kiernan in Pompton Plains, NJ.

My good friend and co worker recently purchased a new home and was in the market for a sturdy well made kitchen table. After  weeks of trying to find something she liked, at a reasonable price, she finally asked me about a table she found in a Pottery Barn catalog. It was a smallvtanle and chair set for $1800. I told her I would make a table, if she bought the materials. All in all, sh spent $600 for a solid maple base and ash top. I joined all the ash boards, sanded them to 220, and then distressed the top, stained it with nutmeg, and finished it with the satin gel coat. The base is painted with Antique White. We then lightly distressed it, and applied black wax to finish. It's beautiful, and incredibly durable. She will be able to pass this down, for generations.
