We had a client contact us with a boat load of Mahogany they purchased to be turned into a dining table.  After meeting with the client I found he had some gorgous boards that he hand picked from a major lumber dealer here in the Atlanta area.  After doing lots of talking and samples he landed on GF Antique Walnut Gel Stain for a finish.  I was hesitant at first to stain such a beautiful set of wood but did as I was told.  I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful it turned out.  The process for finishing was a bit more involved than normal as I wanted to really do the wood justice.  After glue up and sanding we used Timbermate woodfiller mixed with water to thin it down to almost a paint like consistancy, this makes a pour filler that will elimate the open cells in Mahogany.  After this dried the top was sanded once more through the grits then stained with GF Antique Walnut Gel stain, the woodfiller acts as a prestain as well so the table needed stained twice to really deepen the color.  To finish it off the table was sprayed with four coats of GF High Performance Poly in Flat.
