I was given a plain boring pine chest of drawers and asked to create something to suit my customers bedroom. My inspiration came from the colours she had in her bedroom : goldm silver, beige and grey. Over the headboard there is a huge painting with a silver circle and I decided to mirror the round shape on the furniture piece. I picked a few IOD moulds and some non branded ones as well and I started gluing the shape of my mandala.
It took over 6 hours to finish that part of the process.
After applying General Finishes undercoat I started playing with the colours. At first, I thought of a dark brown piece but soon changed my mind. I applied Chateau grey chalk paint (Annie Sloan) then a brown chalk paint by polish company Vernici , but it was still missing the 'WOW' factor. So I grabbed my favourite GF paint - Linen and that's when it all started coming together. Linen calmed the palette and allowed me to add more glazed layers and create the depth I was looking for. I next added glazes in grey and brown using Polyvine scumble. To top it off I added gold, silver, copper leaves and a bit of gold wax on top.
all had been varnished using GF matt high performance varnish.
