I wanted to create a Faux Verdigris effect on these rather plain wooden shelves. I love the Turquoise and Greens tones in aged weather worn metals and this is the look I think i have hopefully achieved!
Firstly I cleaned and sanded the wooden shelves. Then i poured equal amounts of Fusion metallic Copper, and Bronze and Coal Black paint. I mixed it with a product called Fresco by Fusion Mineral paint. It creates texture, so i had a metallic mix with a lot of lumps and texture in. I painted the whole shelves with this mix. I applied it heavier in places to achieve an uneven look, that resembled the aged patina of metal railings.
I then let this dry overnight. The next day was the fun part!! I used leaf and foil size and copper and bronze foils by Artisan Enhancements. I applied the size in various places all over the shelves on top of the texture mix I'd painted on the previous day. This was to give an extra "pop" of metallic!
Then i used Fusion Mineral paint in the colour Azure which is a bright blue, I also used Miss Mustard Seeds Milk Paint in a colour called Lucketts Green. I used Fusion Mineral painst clear glaze product to make washes using the blue and green colours. I painted the blue and green glazes over the whole shelves, wiping back here and there, then applying more washes until i got the look and depth of colour i wanted.
My final step was to seal the whole thing using General Finishes top coat.
