Seawashed Mermaid Bar Stool

By Lou Glaub, Owner at Dreamin' Big Designs in Cordova, TN.

This could have washed up on the shore from a pirate ship or maybe a rum bar where they all hang out.....or maybe it's just been hand painted to look that way. Seawashed in white, turquoise and gray all worn and chippy with a pirates favorite main lady. For the sea lover or just to add some fun to your room, this would be great for that whimsical touch.

This bar stool has come a long way from its turquoise and burgundy stripes beginnings. Once all the old paint was removed using Citristrip, cleaned and sanded a coat of Valspar Antique White in flat was applied and then a thick layering of the white that was mixed with Saltwash per instructions was applied. The turquoise mixture of leftover bits of Wise Owl Seaside Cottage, Joyful and Stonepointe was mixed with the Saltwash and applied heavily in random areas. Once given plenty of time to dry a layer of Annie Sloan Paris Gray was applied. Then the fun begins with several different coarseness of sandpapers to reveal all the layers of colors and achieve that fun, "old as dirt" chippy look also revealing some of the original wood giving it the effect that many 'o pirates had sat drinking their rum in this exact spot. One coat of GF HPTC flat was applied then the beauty of the sea was stenciled on using Wise Owl Peppercorn and sanded to blend in the aging. 2 more coats of GF HPTC were then applied so that it will withstand whatever any rum drinking pirate may do.
