Helena, the Ugly Duckling

By Lisa Vassallo at Timeless Furniture Resto by Lisa in Manahawkin, NJ.

This piece started out SO bad!  She was originally black to grey ombre but it looked horrible.. so I painted it all black. Nope. Sucked. Hmmm, so I applied a cappuccino to her base.... Nope still sucked. I wasn't giving up! I looked in my stash of paint... decided to apply a creme and distressed, revealing the other oopses underneath. Needed more!  So I took my print roller to the drawer fronts, sides, cabinet doors and top. Sanded to make it look worn. Applied some weathered wood antiquing gel, everywhere and used it for shadowing too!. I wanted her to be my OLD DIRTY GIRL and that is what she became...

This piece taught me to just never give up on something... there is always light at the end of the tunnel!
