This 1950s sideboard was actually originally formica and not very pretty formica at that! I had a vision to change it completely and give it a much more luxe look - it already had amazing eye-catching handles so I worked to create geometric shapes to compliment them.
The piece was scuff-sanded first and then given a couple of coats of Fusion Ultra Grip to help the paint adhere to the shiny surface. I then used 3 coats of Fusion Mineral Paint in Soapstone applied with a roller and laying off brush to get a super-smooth finish over the laminate.
I laid out the design with Frogtape and cut away the excess where there was overlap so that I could paint it all at once, rather than laying lines one over another as then it wouldn't flow so well and then I applied 3 coats of Fusion Gold Metallic paint to paint in the lines.
Every inch of the finished piece was protected with General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in Satin which I knew I could trust to make sure the new design stayed looking its best for years to come!
