Coastal Washstand

By Courtney Cole, Owner at Twig & Thyme Design in Sterling, VA.

This late 1800’s solid oak washstand was ready for an update but not quite ready to give up all that gorgeous woodgrain! We opted to do a two-toned look with General Finishes Coastal Blue perfectly paired with General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain.

We bagan this project by scrubbing years of dirt and grime off of all surfaces and then gave the body and thorough sanding. We stripped and sanded the top and top drawer to bare wood and applied one coat of General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain and sealed in multiple coats of Arm-R-Seal in Stain for durability. We painted the body and remaining drawers with two coats of General Finishes Coastal Blue Milk Paint carefully sanding between for smoothness. For a final bit of pizazz, we updated the hardware with gorgeous new pulls from D.Lawless Hardware.
