Bold Red Commode Dresser

By Vanessa, Owner at Vintage Soul in Ridgefield, WA.

This sweet commode dresser is such a departure from my typical painted pieces. I was contacted by a client who got my name from a local antique mall where I use to be a vendor. She told me she was debating on wether to do this piece in white, which would be more versatile, but she really had this gut feeling that red would be so much more fun. To my own surprise, I actually told her that I thought this piece, which is small, but loaded with character, could benefit from being a bright and bold color. I also told her that red is considered a very versatile tone these days because of its overall richness. She trusted my advice and skills and settled on the gorgeous shade of red, Emperor's Silk from Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. This color has such a depth that depending on the light it could take on an orange or blue hue of red. I kept it simple by distressing the edges and finished it with Annie Sloan Clear Wax. She turned out bold and beautiful.
