This dresser is freehand painted with no stencils or tracing. I was inspired by antique illustrations when I painted this. I started with a sketch and drew out a map of where I would lay down the colors. I then sanded and painted the whole dresser white I let the white sit for about week before I started the design. When painting the design I maped out the art freehand with paint. I then started with the simple laying down of the color. After I liked the flow and the feel of the design I then focused on depth and structure. In order to get an image that reads nice I had to make sure that all my edges we crisp and that light colors butted up to the darker colors. In order to get a uniform texture I had to keep the paint thin and contantly keep a clean brush. I painted this dresser outside in the Arizona heat which made keeping a clean brush a challenge. Sometimes I had to go back and sand down the bumps and repaint to get that smooth texture.
