1930's Drawers

By Tessa at Room Thirteen, Brighton, UK, Owner at Room Thirteen in Brighton, GB

This beautiful 1930s chest of drawers really needed an update. It was a very dark brown and it just looked very drab. I sanded the previous stain back and then stained with GF Wood Stain. After 2 coats I rubbed a candle over the whole piece so it was covered in candle wax. I then painted an uneven layer of the custom blue over the top and when that was dry I scraped all the candle wax off. This leaves a lovely uneven effect. I was going to use another colour over the top of the blue but was actually really happy with the result as it was. I finished off with copper wax which gives it such a lovely sheen. It looks different from every angle and what about those handles!
