I am definitely a "do it yourselfer"! I love to decorate and upcycle furniture. My projects to date are:
Queen Anne Cherry 6pc bedroom set - cherry to antique linen (painted white and glazed)
Honey oak 7pc.dinette set - chalk painted the table white and the chairs a grey/blue.
3 oak nesting tables - a blue ombre effect
Kitchen cabinets: 1995 honey oak. I first painted them white and loved them at first, but they were a bit to modern for me in my transitional styled home and hard to keep clean. A neighbor was re-doing her kitchen and gave me her upgraded fronts (they fit my kitchen because we have the same model home). I gel stained them using GF gel stain a rich cherry color. (georgian cherry and brown mahogany) They turned out fantastic.
Next Project: Having left over materials from the kitchen, I stained my railings that were also honey oak. I plan on painting the ballisters white. I also plan on re-staining my hall bath vanity, which is also honey oak. I cant decide to do GF gel stain grey or use the same color of my kitchen....time will tell.
With all my projects, I have done them by myslef with no help from my husband. I take a lot of pride in that. The GF products are superb to anything else I have used and not only make the projects easier but the results are phenominal!!
My son is currently looking to buy his first home. I overheard him telling his friends that the house finishes don't matter - "My mom is a great decorator and she can make anything look great". Looks like I have some work to do in my future!
