Beast to Beauty

By Katie & Co. Furniture Restorations, Owner

This set got a complete overhaul. Someone had previously painted them a light blue with a glaze affect. It was scratching right off with my fingernail. It was not properly prepped. I believe it was latex paint. So, I stripped and sanded, and stripped and sanded until ever single speck of blue was gone. I had to save them!!! My fingertips were raw for 4 days after this but it was well worth it! I was able to remove the trim pieces on the bottoms of each drawer to make stripping them a tad less stressful. :) I reattched them with wood glue and nails. I repaired two of the drawers, added new drawer glides so they would function properly, and reattached the backboards.

This is a custom mixed color. I started with Queenstown Gray, added Lamp Black, and a touch of Dark Chocolate to warm it up a little so it would match the Java Gel stained top. It's bautiful and I will definitely be using it a lot in the future. The paint and top coat were applied with an HVLP spray gun. Top drawer and top stained in Java Gel and sealed in HPTC Satin. The body is sealed in HPTC Flat. Insides of the drawers are painted Dark Chocolate. Both pieces are lighly distressed around the edges and have the original Hepplewhite pulls. They are once again beautiful.
