Sunshine rays

After joining the Upcyclers Club run by Aileen Hogan of Shabby.ie I am trying to think outside the box

This is the most daring piece I have done but also one of the most enjoyable.

This table was pine and had a beautiful grain on the top however the rest of the table didn’t have it, so I choose driftwood grey to team up with the Java gel stain.  Two combinations I haven’t used before.

Needless to say I love it.

I started by sanding back to as much of the raw wood as I could, I then cleaned.  Standing back and looking at this table in its bare form I wondered where will I go with it.

I looked over and saw my masking tape and the result …… sunshine rays!!!

I wanted to keep some of the pine effect so this worked perfectly.

I applied the gel stain generously to the areas I wanted it, leaving some pine effect.

I then applied Java to the feet and proceeded to paint the rest of this table in driftwood grey.  I sanded lightly between coats to give a glass like touch to the finish.

I finished the Gel stained areas in high performance top coat in satin and all remaining parts in flat high performance top coat.

I am very pleased with the way this table turned out.
