As pretty as a picture

By Julie, Artist at Dandelions and Poppies

The inspiration for this project started with a dresser that had sat in a car port for years and a watercolour painting I did years ago.

I love to make furniture look like it has a story to tell.

Using drywall compound  I created a raised stencil over the drawer fronts, leaving a circle clear to take my painting.

Painted in deep red and dry brushed over with buttercup yellow.

I used the yellow to highlight the front details but wanted something to give the piece garvitas and Java Gel was the perfect product.

Used on the top, sides and legs, it perfectly grounded the dresser.

I transfered my watercolour using an artist gel medium and aged it with artist paint.

The piece looked a little too bright and shiny so I used a wipe on wipe off method over all the painted parts with Java Gel.

Now she has a story to tell and maybe a few that she won't!
