I found this piece of furniture at an auction in Knoxville, Tennessee and knew immediatly what I was going to do with it. I had just read about the General Finishes Paint Contest and I knew this was the perfect piece to showcase several of the General Finishes products.
I started this project with a base color using Fjord Blue Chalk Style paint. For the next four colors I mixed water in the Chalk Style paints to create several translucent layers. First was Summertime Chalk Style paint followed by a watered down Stillwater and Empire Gray. The final color I painted was the Limestone Chalk Style paint. I had to let each coat dry over night to prevent pulling off the previous colors.
After a light distressing with sandpaper, I used General Finishes Flat Out Flat Topcoat. The piece needed a little pizazz, so I decided to apply a Van Dyke Brown Glaze Effect to age and "dirty up" the detail. The final step was to add Pearl Effects to accentuate the trim. Using a small brush, I added Burnished Pearl to the detail parts of the trim work.
Ladies and Gentleman, I would like to introduce our lady, Belle la Bleue!
