1995 honey oak to modern white to classic cherry

By Sharyn Algonquin, IL

My 1995 honey oak kitchen was screaming for a makeover.  I first painted the cabinets white only to find they were miserable to keep clean.  Two years later, they also started to yellow.  A few months back, my neighbor that has the same home style as me, was upgrading her kitchen and gave me her honey oak cabinet fronts, a nice upgrade from my existing cabinets.  A great opportunity to get the kitchen color of my dreams.  Looking for a richer color, I combined equal parts of  General Finishes Georgian Cherry and Brown Mahogany gel stain.  This is the classic look I wanted all along.  This was a huge undertaking for this DIY'r, but General Finishes gel stain made the job so easy to do! I plan on doing my railings next!
