Cozy kitchen

By Michele in Duluth, MN.

Winning Category

We purchased our house and knew the kitchen would need a makeover right away! The cabinets were a golden maple wood color and the countertop was country blue formica...it was very 80's country from the wallpaper to the countertop.

I painted the cabinets with General Finishes Antique White Milk Paint and applied General Finishes Flat Out Flat Topcoat.  We decided we wanted a warm and cozy feel and opted for the warmth of butcher block.

The transformation of our kitchen was amazing. We went from 80's country design to a chic, warm, and cozy kitchen.

We Updated our Farmhouse Cabinets, when we moved to the family farm in 2013, it had the classic oak cabinets, the last time the kitchen was update which was in 1970.  It was time to make this Centery farm and farmhouse Ours!    We chose Queentown Gray and Pitch Black Glaze. We painted the base of the cabinterywith the queenstown and then sealed them.  On the doors we painted queenstown gray and then  did a dry glaze technique to the doors to give it depth and interested. This farmhouse is now more in style and we are loving the updated look without the huge expense of remodling.!

Hi New House, Meet Java!!

By Tracy Eubanks

Winning Category

After renting the past 10 years, my husband and I finally purchased a home this January. It was COVERED in the infamous honey oak. My kitchen was stuck with a football field sized green countertop so I searched the internet for something to camouflage what I still call the Green Monster. Well search no more! I found General Finishes Java Gel Stain and have fallen in love. First, I cleaned the cabinets with 50/50 Denatured Alcohol and water and then sanded more than I wanted to due to a collection of layer upon layer of grease on the doors and cabinets. I guess they liked to fry..a lot!

Honey No More!!

By Tracy Eubanks

Winning Category

After I Gel Stained my own kitchen, a friend of mine messaged me on Facebook asking me if I would take a look at her kitchen and maybe paint hers too. Since Gel Stain was not an option for her, I suggested using GF Milk Paint although I had never painted with it. I love the Gel Stains so I knew the Milk Paint had to have the same product quality. She decided on GF Linen Milk Paint and now she couldn't be happier with her decision. First, I cleaned the cabinets with 50/50 Denatured Alcohol and water and then lightly sanded with a high grit sandpaper.

The base of this bathroom cabinet was a rare size and because of that the price to replace just the base would have cost over $1,000. I used 2 coats of General Finishes Driftwood and sealed it with 3 coats of General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in Flat. Such a huge transformation!!

Lamp Black / Drift Wood Cabinet Project~

By GoodWillHunting Lawson Designs, Owner at GoodWillHunting Lawson in New Lenox, IL.

Winning Category

Hey there Friends! We were called in by a client to revamp her kitchen! All cabinets were honey oak and needed some love! We removed all the doors, taped, washed all the cabinets, then hand painted every piece (no spraying used) in Lamp Black milk paint. We then distressed the cabinets and doors, sealed every piece in High Performance Top Coat and reassembled. It takes us a bit longer to paint because we're not spraying anything but we and our clients feel the desired look has been achieved! We hope you love!

Your Friends,

The GoodWillHunting Lawson Team~

35 year old kitchen made new again!

By Fallon_Market House Restorations, Owner at Market House Restorations, LLC in Salem, VA.

Winning Category

To begin, I had to re-position the knobs on the cabinet doors, because they were currently placed in middle/center of each door. I filled them in then I sealed the doors with General Finishes Stain Blocker.  This helped me achieve an extra smooth base before I applied the paint. I then painted the cabinets 3x with General Finishes snow white and sealed them with General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in Flat. I can't get my "before" pictures to upload correctly, but the transformation was huge! :)

Whoa! What a Change!

By Jessica Gilbert/Deb Alexander, Owners at Boutique Unique in Glasgow, KY.

Winning Category

We are crushing on the new look of this updated gorgeous kitchen!  Besides new wall color, lighting and countertops, the finishing touch was updating the honey oak cabinets with GF products! The main cabinets were painted in GF milk paint in Linen. These were lightly distressed and then glazed in Van Dyke Brown. Driftwood milk paint on the island drew out the gray in the countertops and pulled the kitchen together. A finish of HPTC in Flat helped complete this gorgeous remodel. What a stunning transformation for this sweet family's kitchen!

Let's Lighten It Up

By Jessica Gilbert/Deb Alexander, Owners at Boutique Unique in Glasgow, KY.

Winning Category

We LOVE a good cabinet transformation and this one is beautiful! These dark stained cabinets were primed with BIN to stop bleed through of the red cherry stain. The stunning island was lightened up with a custom mix of GF's Snow White and Linen milk paints. After sand distressing they were moderately glazed in GF's Van Dyke brown. The main cabinets just rock in GF Driftwood milk paint. These too were sand distressed and glazed in GF Van Dyke brown. Everything was sealed in GF HPTC in Satin. Chunky ORB hardware just complimented the style of this kitchen.

Sawgrass Stunner

By The Rustic Seahorse, Owner

Winning Category

The Sawgrass Stunner is one of my favorite makeovers to date. The bones of the cabinetry were already gorgeous but the wood color was a dated cherry. I used a custom mix color for the main floor and General Finishes Lamp Black for the two islands. I then used General Finishes Flat Out Flat on the main floor and the satin formula on the islands.  This beautiful family was able to keep their floors, backsplash and countertops. This transformation was a big job but anything is possible with the right products and some hard work.

Farmhouse kitchen cabinets

By Nikki Dunn

Winning Category

I had always hated my kitchen cabinets. They were a yellowish oak- very plain and outdated.I really wanted something new,yet rustic looking.  It was then that I discovered Gf milk paint and I was quickly obsessed with it. I began watching every tutorial & reading every blog about painting kitchen cabinets. I decided to use the Antique White and Van dyke brown glaze and the high performance top coat.  It was a trial and error process but I was able to catch on quickly.  I did 3 coats of the paint then 1 coat of the top coat.

Master Bath Makeover

By Laura in COLLEYVILLE, TX.

Winning Category

We wanted a warm rich looking bathroom. White would make this room washed out, but the current cabinets doors were MDF panels so staining was not an option. The cabinets has to look like they were stained without being too dark like an espresso which would be too contemporary for the room. Using multiple layers I created a dark rich walnut wood look that matched the master bedroom furniture which made the room flow.

Vintage Kitchen Cabinet in Navy

By Gelynda

Winning Category

I love saving anything vintage and this piece is no exception. It reminds me of Grandma's Kitchen and I knew it had to be mine. I removed the old top with metal rim and replaced it with old house wood. I stained the old wood to give it a vintage feel using Minwax stain. I painted the cabinet body using Coastal Blue Milk Paint. The doors were in such good shape I decided to leave them in their natural state. I chose the Flat Out Flat to finish her off after lining the shelves inside the cabinet with wallpaper that matches my kitchen. I am in love!
