General Finishes

The "mean girl" chest turned into the "beauty" chest   It seems like every item of furniture I acquire comes with a story and I end up naming the furniture.  Can you believe this chest was called the “mean girl”?  Here is how it received the  mean girl name.  My amazing sister and I were trying to figure out how to carry this heavy chest down two stories of very narrow stairs when a little girl came up to my sister punched and then kicked her, ouch!  I guess this little girl was not happy to see this chest go, lol. 

How I transformed this beauty…

French Country style vintage Drexel Triune 9- drawer dresser. This dresser has been painted with layers of texture with a custom blue-gray color giving the dresser an authentic aged finish. An Oak planked top was added and stained with a custom mix to achieve a gray, blue and brown weathered look. The Drexel dresser was sealed with 4 coats of flat topcoat for extra durability.

This MCM lowboy had been forgotten and neglected by its previous owner. Now it is renewed and refinished with semi-gloss goodness.   I achieved this look by using GF Stain Blocker, a custom mix of white acrylic paint, Antique Walnut Gel Stain, gold acrylic paint and GF High Performance polyurethane water based topcoat in semi- gloss. 

Mid Century Modern 1960's Kent Coffey Finesse lowboy.  The many imperfections that came with this dresser turned out to be the inspiration in the design process.  The Finesse now has a stunning white and walnut two-tone finish.  New modern brass pulls were added.

This 1960's two-tone lowboy was refinished with the following General Finishes products:

Drawers with sculpted wood pulls - GF Java Gel stain and Arm-R-Seal urethane topcoat in satin.

Body - GF Stain Blocker, Snow White Paint and High Performance polyurethane water based topcoat in semi- gloss.
